WordPress Website Design - Porto's Bakery

WordPress website design and development for Porto's Bakery & Cafe, a beloved California institution baking since 1960 with 6 locations across the LA area. Built a warm, brand-rich site featuring multi-location online ordering, a nationwide "Bake at Home" shipping store, office catering system, live Instagram feed, and an email list funnel, turning a beloved local brand into a fully functional digital revenue channel.

Client: Porto's Bakery & Cafe
Platform: WordPress (Custom Theme)
Industry: Food & Beverage / Multi-Location Restaurant & Bakery
Location: Los Angeles, California (6 locations: Burbank, Glendale, Downey, West Covina, Buena Park, Northridge)

The Problem

Porto's Bakery has been a Southern California institution since 1960, built on Rosa Porto's recipes, a devoted multigenerational fanbase, and a reputation that sells itself in person. The challenge was taking that in-person energy and translating it into a digital experience that could serve 6 locations simultaneously, drive online orders, manage a nationwide shipping store, and grow a catering business, all without losing the warmth and authenticity that makes Porto's, Porto's. A bakery of this scale needed a website that could handle serious order volume and multiple revenue streams without ever feeling like a generic food chain.

What I Built

I designed and developed the full WordPress site on a custom theme, focused on multi-location order management, brand storytelling, and multi-stream revenue generation. Key deliverables included:

  • A dynamic homepage hero with rotating featured announcements (new menu items, seasonal products, shipping promotions, keeping the site feeling fresh and giving repeat visitors a reason to engage every time they land

  • A multi-location online pickup ordering system routing customers to their nearest Porto's location (Burbank, Glendale, Downey, West Covina, Buena Park, Northridge) with smart capacity management, automatically surfacing "sold out" status when daily order limits are reached to manage expectations and reduce support requests

  • A fully integrated "Bake at Home" nationwide shipping store, a separate revenue channel for customers outside California to order Porto's signature pastries, cakes, and seasonal items delivered to their door

  • A dedicated Office Catering section with its own conversion page, package breakdowns, and order flow, targeting the corporate lunch and event market as a high-ticket revenue stream

  • An interactive menu search tool with category filtering, allowing customers to quickly locate specific items across an extensive product range without friction

  • Location pages for all 6 stores with Google Maps integration, individual phone numbers, and direct pickup order CTAs, making it fast for mobile visitors to act from wherever they are

  • A live Instagram feed embedded on the homepage pulling from @portosbakery, turning real-time social content into a homepage engagement tool and driving Instagram follower growth

  • An email list signup embedded in the footer with a family-oriented hook, building a direct marketing channel independent of social media algorithms

  • Community section highlighting charity partnerships (Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Veterans recognition), reinforcing brand values and emotional connection with loyal customers

  • Wedding cake and gift card dedicated pages, capturing two high-value, often overlooked revenue streams with clear dedicated CTAs

The Results

  • 6-location pickup ordering system fully integrated and capacity-managed, online orders for each location automatically close when daily capacity is reached and reopen nightly at 10 PM, preventing order overflow and the customer service complaints that come with overselling

  • Nationwide shipping store launched as a standalone revenue stream, the "Bake at Home" channel allows Porto's to monetize its brand loyalty far beyond Southern California, reaching customers in states where no physical location exists

  • Office Catering page built as a dedicated conversion funnel, separating catering from the main menu means business customers searching for "office catering Los Angeles" can land on a purpose-built page with package details and a direct order path, rather than having to dig through a general menu

  • Live Instagram feed on the homepage, rotating real content from @portosbakery keeps the homepage visually fresh without requiring manual website updates, while simultaneously driving traffic back to Instagram for continued brand engagement

  • Email newsletter signup positioned in the footer of every page, gradually building a direct audience of loyal Porto's fans that can be reached for product launches, seasonal specials, and location announcements without relying on paid social reach

  • Wedding cake and gift card pages properly structured with standalone CTAs, two high-intent customer segments (wedding planners, gift buyers) previously buried in general navigation now have dedicated landing pages optimized for their specific search intent

  • Mobile-first design across all 6 location pages, critical for a food brand whose customers most commonly search "Porto's near me" or "Porto's Burbank order" from a mobile device while deciding where to eat or what to pick up
